BCA-Brampton Court House Addition

Client: BCA-Brampton Court House
Location Brampton, Ontario

The Brampton courthouse addition features a 6-storey building with 150,000 sq. ft of area and 1010 tons of steel. The addition features new courtroom and support spaces as well as a new complete basement. The building was connected to the existing courthouse with walkway - bridges for a seamless transition.

Structural steel was chosen for its reduced weight and strength. This allowed the designers to have long spans free of columns required for courtrooms. In addition, by reducing dead load, structural steel creates savings in the foundations compared to heavy concrete structures. The structural steel members were fabricated and erected by Pittsburgh Steel Group using the latest 3D modelling software and equipment all of which translated in a cost savings for the owner, less errors and increased safety.
