The Ahmadiyya Muslim Mosque is located in Brampton Ontario. This project was unique since it required long open spans in the gymnasium and the prayer hall, as well as complex architectural features like the tower and the dome. Since steel has a great strength to weight ratio, it was the perfect choice for long spaces free of columns required in those areas. The dome and the tower were delivered to site as fabricated, pre-engineered frames. Tower and dome were assembled at ground level. The dome itself was finished off with metal deck, gladding, insulation and drywall on the inside. Once ready the frame and dome were hoisted over 40 feet above ground level and accurately bolted in place. Modern equipment and 3D modelling software allowed Pittsburgh Steel Group to fabricate both the tower and the dome without any errors while cutting down costs on erection time.
